Governance
February 2005
Dennis Rood
The first board meeting of the year was held at Barrier Porsche
in Bellevue on Monday January 3 with about 25 in attendance.
The new board introduced themselves and their backgrounds and
current Porsche they are driving. These included Boxster S, 968,
993, 944, 911 and 996 (with a 997 on the way) models. Some have
multiple Porsches in their families including 928s and 356s as
well.
There was a lot of beginning of the year items to deal with.
One was a budget being due next month. Another was trying to
find a new ad manager as Rawlee Ridgeway has gone back to work
at Boeing to build the 7E7 right. We also need a rally chairman
and VP Dennis Coplen, who has had a lot of rally experience,
is researching this area and other clubs we might be able to
join that already have schedule in place and with whom we might
have multi-marque events. When he gets the information together,
we will advertise for a rally co-coordinator. This means you
may not have to put a lot of rallies together but rather manage
relationships and schedule for other club rallies already being
run. If anyone would like to volunteer for that position please
let Dennis or me know.
The end of January is the National PCA winter meeting in San
Diego . I won't attend that but will send my proxy vote with
Linda Bein, our Zone 6 rep. The Zone 6 presidents meeting is
in Portland March 18-20 and I will be attending that. This is
a chance for us to learn how we might have inter-region events,
learn from what they are doing that we can improve on or add for
our club and especially find out from the Portland club how we
can be of help for the 2006 Parade they are hosting there. I
am quite sure we will be asked to manage and operate the autocross
as we did at the Boise Parade in 2002 and do every year for the
Canada West Club/PNWR Whistler Weekend.
This year Nancy and I will be social chairman but we have found
two new co-chairs for tours , Larry and Sherrel Nelson. They
were proposed and voted into this position at the January board
meeting and will be coordinating and leading this effort for
2005. See my last tour column for introductions and more information
on Larry and Sherrel. Thanks for volunteering.
While these are the quiet winter months without a lot of driving
events, review the calendar in the front of the Spiel or on the
PNWR Web site and plan for the events you want to attend. If
you want to meet some fun people and see how your club runs come
to a board meeting some first Monday of the month. If you have
a home you like to host a wine tasting social in June, let us
know about that. Also, I hope by the time you read this you have
registered for (January 18) and have received approval to attend
the 50 th anniversary of PCA Parade in Hershey Pennsylvania from
June 25 to July 1.
Most of all, plan to sign up for one of Bill Bauer's Driving
Skills classes. See my last tour column for more comments but
trust me, you will have a lot of fun and be very glad you did.
Hope to see you soon at one of our next events.
