April was a very busy month as we started
our driving season with better weather. I think our total activities
attended may have peaked this month.
First we started with the Board Meeting of course, then a great
Tech Session at Bradley's detail, put on by our Tech Chairman,
Eric Breidenbach. I have been to a number of these over the
past 22 years in the club but this one was a full menu. Besides
Bradley's excellent detail crew we had the Dent Wizard, Color Tek,
a leather restoration company, and Aero Color(who invented air
brushing we were told.) put on presentations and demonstrations.
A great session and I dropped my Lexus sedan at Aero Color after
the session to get a panel someone had keyed fixed. Came back looking
great. Thanks Eric.
Next I attended Skills Day put on by Bill Bauer and a very energetic
crew of coaches and workers. When I left Kirkland it was raining
so hard but let up at South Center and, while rain and wind persisted
at the driver briefing by 11:30 the sun was out. Bill and his
team did a great job and it is the first time I have tried the
skid pad in the wet(and we didn't even have to wet it down with
a water truck.). Great job Bill and team.
The Past President's dinner was very enjoyable with six past
presidents and about 30 people attending. See Fred Meyer's (Past
President, 1971) article. I showed the 50 th Anniversary CD that
we were sent and everyone enjoyed that plus reviewing several
30 + year old Club Newsletters that Fred brought with him. Do
you know what our club newsletter was named first??? PCABS—(I
don't think that talked about cabriolets. Ask Fred, he won the
contest to rename the newsletter The Spiel). Dick Hostetler had
advertised for sale in the classified column for points and a
condenser for a late 60's 911-$1 each. Also, it seemed like some
of the most active people lived in the Olympia & Shelton
area where their were many tours and picnics. Our club surely
has changed.
Finally, Nancy and I led the More Smiles to the Miles tour on
April 23 rd . We got to Issaquah Krispy Kreme at 7:45AM and people
were already starting to arrive for a 9;00AM departure. We went
out and re-ran the first 5 miles to make sure of all of the changes
in streets since the new connector from the Plateau directly
West onto I-90. Good thing we did. We had 50 cars leave Krispy
Kreme at 9:05AM with group two being led by Tour Chairs Larry
and Sherrel Nelson and ex Treasurer Emmett and club photographer
extraordinaire Diane Koontz leading the third group. We only
had about 45 minutes in Snohomish this trip as we had to run
the North section to Granite Falls and back and be in Mukilteo
at Traxx by 1:00PM. The weather was sunny and beautiful for many
first time participants. Thanks to Jessica Hall for writing the
article on the tour.
Nancy and I will be going back to Parade and attending the National
Board Meeting and President's meeting to represent our club. We
found a way to get tickets to the banquets and get in to observe
events and goodie store, since we won't be bringing our car with
us. Lot's to do in summer coming up so come out enjoy your Porsche
and the people who drive and ride in them. See you soon!!
