Governance
January 2007
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to 2007! A whole new year that will be filled with Porsche fun!
With the start of 2007 we have a whole bunch of administrative changes going on in the club. First, we welcome our new 2007 board members. There are two changes from 2006. Robert Durff officially takes over for Barb Coplen as Secretary. Robert has been filling in for Barb since she took over the Spiel Editor duties in October. Mike Piccolo takes over for Jim Bell as Director-At-Large for the next two years. I look forward to working with all of the board, both new and returning members. I especially want to thank Bill Rogers for his enthusiasm to run for the board. (Bill, don’t lose that enthusiasm since I’m sure Steve Downing will be discussing an opening for 2008 with you!)
Second, we have some chair changes to announce. Pat Hillyer is passing his chair position to Jana Swan. Jana has helped run the Driver’s Education activities for several years and Pat says he needs a break after the events of last year. Jana and Carl Swan in return pass their Membership chair positions to Brian Scott. To round off the administrative changes, Greg and Jodie Fordahl are passing the chair duties to Tim and Linda Kornacki. Tim and Linda have been learning as much as they can about running PNWR Autocross over the past year and will help lead a new committee.
Yes, I said a new committee! Over the past several months the Fordahls and I have been working out, what we believe to be the best way to preserve the knowledge necessary for PNWR’s continued level of autocross excellence. The Fordahls have years of knowledge to share. I didn’t think it was fair to try and funnel that knowledge into just one position and expect the same results to persevere over time. The Fordahls will be moving to Autocross "Executive Advisor" status to keep them heavily involved whenever their grueling schedules allow. So without further adieu, may I introduce the newly formed PNWR Autocross Committee:
- Chairpersons and Onsite Event Operations - Tim & Linda Kornaki
Responsibilities - Day of event coordination, oversee all autocross related issues, work with committee to address issues, create written policies and procedures manual for autocross events.
- Executive Advisor - Greg Fordahl
Responsibilities - At Large, course design, tech issues, as needed.
- Executive Advisor and Registration/Timing/Scoring - Jodi Fordahl
Responsibilities - Technology lead for online registration, on-site computerized timing and scoring, course content and layout as it would apply to the "fun factor" for PNWR membership, as needed.
- Rules - Leeds Gulick
Responsibilities - Integration of class and rule changes and course design approval, new model integration into existing, or new classes.
- At-Large - Jeff Barstow
Responsibilities - Evaluate candidates for Instructor status, as needed.
- At-Large - Geoff Newman
Responsibilities - Evaluate candidates for instructor status, as needed.
- Tech Inspections - Eric Fry
Responsibilities - Oversee vehicle on-site technical safety inspections, create a written tech inspection form for future use at PNWR events, define which people are actually tech inspectors before each event.
- PNWR Safety Chair (by default a member of all committees) - Steve Downing
Responsibilities - As the club's Safety Chair, this position will preside over all issues relating to the safety of participants including safety of any portion of the course design, grid location and pit arrangements.
- PNWR President (by default a member of all committees) - Dennis Coplen
Responsibilities - As the club's President, this position will preside over all issues having direct ramifications on the club as a whole.
To those familiar with the autocross events, this won’t shock too many. Each committee member is working areas where they already contribute heavily. Most PNWR autocrossers look to these members for guidance anyway, so now they are just officially recognized.
Remember we have our Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet on January 20th. January 12th is the last day to get your reservations/payments into Nancy Rood. Hope to see many of you there. It is always a great time.
Happy New Year!
-Dennis Coplen
