Update: New Helmet Minimum Standards go into Effect on June 1, 2006

With the release and distribution of the new 2005 Snell rated helmets, PNWR, along with PCA, is now moving to a new minimum helmet requirement beginning with 2006. The new minimum of Snell Memorial Foundation 2000 or later is required; M or SA rating is acceptable. SA is recommended for increased fire protection. This standard is inplace for all driving events on the track, including Driver Ed, Driver Skills and Autocross. If you have questions, please contact our Safety Chair, Steve Downing or Chief Driving Instructor, Steve Dowd.

MARCH 2006

Update: New Helmet Minimum Standards on Hold until more extensively available

There has been fewer than expected helmets distributed to local retailers. Until further notice, the 1995 & 2000 helments will be accepted at all events. Notification of the timeline for the new requirement enforcement will be posted here. This standard is inplace for all driving events on the track, including Driver Ed, Driver Skills and Autocross. If you have questions, please contact our Safety Chair, Steve Downing or Chief Driving Instructor, Steve Dowd.

Come watch Team Seattle on the big screen at the Lake Washington Roaster & Ale House on Feb. 5. Team Seattle Cars at Barrier

Team Seattle's GT3 Super Cup Cars will be on display at Barrier Porsche on Saturday, Dec. 11. These cars will be running in the 2005 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, held on Feb. 5-6. The 2005 Porsche Parade

Mark your calendar for June 25 to July 1, for the 50th Porsche Parade being held in Hershey, PA. For information on the parade events, go to www.pca.org/parade/2005.

The 2005 Parade will be the first to use electronic registration. To register online, you first need to obtain a current PCA logon ID and password. Champ Cars coming back to PIR

The Champ Car World Series will return next year. The announcement was made Friday by Portland Parks Commissioner Jim Francesconi and Champ Car President Dick Eidswick. The race will run in the traditional late June window, and will be part of the Champ Car schedule to be released in November. Watch for PNWR special event information around this event.

Last DE Day this year - Oct. 24

Registration is now open for our last Driver Education event for the 2004 season. If you've not been to the track yet this year, now's your chance. We have a very exciting program with highly skilled instructors to help beginners and intermediate track drivers improve their skills. Registration opens to non-PCA members on Oct. 3 - so reserve your spot now. First time drivers will attend a Ground School on Oct. 21. For additional information or registration forms, go to the Driver Ed section under At the Track.

Call for Nominations

Although it's only September, the time has come to solicit candidates for the November election of the 2005 Board of Directors. As usual, candidates are sought for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and one Board Member at Large position. All candidates, including incumbents running for re-election, should submit resumes of no more than 200 words for publication in the November edition of the Porsche Spiel. Pictures will not be used.

Any member in good standing nominating another must submit written approval from the nominee in accordance with Bylaws section 9.1. All nominations and resumes must be received by email, or postmarked if by mail, by midnight September 22, 2004. Nominations may be mailed to the Club's P.O. Box or emailed to relngson@aol.com.

Multi-Marque Concours d'Elegance

Shine up your car and come display it on the beautiful grounds of Chateau Ste. Michelle at a special charity Concours being held this Saturday, Sept. 18. The event, benifitting DECA, is open to Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs, Ferraris - any automobile manufactured in Europe. AUGUST 2004

PNWR.org Earns National Trophy

For the second year in a row, the Pacific NorthWest Region's website has placed in the PCA national website contest. The site won 4th place this year after placing 2nd overall in 2003. Very few changes were made to the site over that past year, but plans are underway for more interactive features in the near future. Look for Pacific NW Region forums as well as a new members-only area with profiles and expanded event registration.

Proposed Revisions to the Pacific NW Region Bylaws

The PCA/PNWR Bylaws Committee has submitted the proposed revisions to the PNWR Board of Directors, and they have approved them to be published for your review here on the regional web site and in the Spiel. Any proposed changes or objection to these revisions must be in writing and received by the Board prior to the November 3, 2003 board meeting.

Shine up your car and come display it on the beautiful grounds of Chateau Ste. Michelle at a special charity Concours being held this Saturday, Sept. 13. The event, benifitting DECA, is open to Porsches, Mercedes, BMWs, Ferraris, any automobile manufactured in Europe. Full event details and registration information available in the Concours area of the In the Garage section. Also needed are volunteers to help out at the event.
