July 2006
Hello Porsche Fans,
The season is roaring ahead at full throttle in July! With everything going on
this month, I don’t think we’ll be getting much done around the house on the
weekends. The days are getting longer so I guess I’ll have to squeeze those
chores in after work.
On the first weekend of the month we have Autocross Series #5 in Bremerton and
the PNW Sovren Historics at Pacific Raceways in Kent. Need some tire squealing
and throttle response in July? The first weekend is just for you.
Thanks to our concours team, we have added more events this year. Two of are
this month. Early in July we have a full parade rules concours being hosted by
the Risingers on the 8th. This will be the first chance to get your efforts (or
lack thereof) graded. At the end of the month we have a final tune up before
Parade at the Piccolo’s on the 30th. These two events should give the hardcore
concours lovers a great ramp up before the beginning of August.
On the second Friday of the month (14th) is chance to perfect your TSD rally
skills. These events, which start at 6:45pm in the Eastgate Park and Ride lot,
are a great way to spend a Friday night. The Northwest Rally Council has kindly
allowed us to participate in this series and is willing to help anyone who
needs it.
But don’t stay out too late on Friday, as bright and early on Saturday (15th)
the annual John Walker Swap Meet is scheduled to occur. Come out and find that
elusive part or sell some of those dusty Porsche items just cluttering the
garage. Social as well as communal, this event is a fun time for any Porsche
enthusiast.
The weekend of the 21st-23rd the American LeMans series returns to Portland. The
new Porsche Spyder P2 car is burning up the track and this will be the first
time the Northwest will get to see it. Make arrangements early as I hear hotels
are filling up.
Finally, we have the Roods holding a BBQ at the end of a new tour on Whidbey
Island on the 29th. The tour is limited to twenty cars so space is limited. You
can check with Dennis or Nancy to check availability.
With the Portland Parade at the beginning of August, those of you attending will
want to make sure to get out and experience the following:
-
A concours
-
An autocross
-
A Friday Nighter TSD rally
You will probably also want to bulk up on those Porsche technical details for
the quizzes at Parade. By getting out to each one of these types of events, you
can know what to expect at Parade. Even if you aren’t participating in
everything in Portland, you will gain an inside perspective if you attend an
event that can tune your skills.
Participate. PNWR is all about Porsche people. Come out for an event. Stop by
the monthly board meeting. Contact a committee chair to see how you can get
involved. We have over 1,500 members, lots of events, and something for
everyone. Do more than read about it – do it!
