General Info
Join your fellow PNWR members for a scenic drive through Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties. Starting with a back road blast from Marysville Best Buy to Granite Falls, we’ll continue north along SR9 and some twisty side roads up to Welcome for a brief rest stop and opportunity to fuel up with ethanol-free. From there, we'll continue eastward on SR542 up the switchbacks to Artist Point. Once there, take some time to soak in the stunning views of Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan (weather permitting), explore the trails, socialize, or take photos - but don’t wander too far away. After visiting Artist Point, we’ll make our way back down the mountain to Glacier where - new for this year - we’ll have lunch at Chair 9 in their new outdoor beer garden.
Special notice: a day parking pass is required to park at Artist Point. In order to avoid congestion at the Ranger station, everyone MUST purchase a day pass online PRIOR TO THE TOUR. Purchase and print the pass at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/mbs/passes-permits/recreation
Due to Covid 19 and state restrictions, there is a strict 100 person limit for the tour (including tour leads and all passengers) travelling in two separate groups, separated by about an hour. Should any changes need to be made, we will communicate as early as possible and appreciate everyone’s flexibility. This assumes we will be in Phase 3 of the Washington reopening plan, which limits group gatherings to less than 50 people.
Directions
Marysville Best Buy. Take I-5 North or South to the Hwy 531 exit. Exit west on Hwy 531 to 27th Ave NE. Turn left on 27th Ave NE and left again on 169th Place NE. Best Buy is on the left.
Tour Schedule
Meet up between 8:00 and 8:30, driver's meeting at 8:30, first group out at 9:00. Spend time at Artist Point for scenic views and short hikes, then back down to Glacier for lunch for those who registered. Second groups will meet between 9:00 and 9:30, driver's meeting at 9:30, first group out at 10:00 AM
